Initially aimed at home and home-office users, McAfee VirusScan was designed for virus detection and removal. It was equipped with technologies to protect computers from various security threats, such as viruses, worms, Trojans, and spyware.
Designed to secure photos, documents and financial data, the utility could be set to automatically scan and clean emails, instant messenger attachments, downloads, and other types of files.
It featured real-time protection against malware agents that silently ran in the background, detection at multiple entry and exit points (including USB ports), inline cleaning for locations with viruses, worms, Trojans, ActiveX objects and Java applets, along with ScriptStopper, a technology used for preventing zero-day script-based threats, like the "I Love You" virus.
In addition to these, the software app had modules for identifying, removing and blocking potentially unwanted programs, tracking cookies and stealth programs, as well as for optimizing the computer.
It included a quarantine manager, log, report and event viewers, automated and frequent signature updates that ran in the background, together with support for buffer overflow protection. McAfee VirusScan Crack could have been integrated with AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo Messenger and MSN Messenger.
The program has been integrated into McAfee Internet Security, McAfee Total Protection and McAfee VirusScan Enterprise, which can be tested in a free time-limited trial. The enterprise edition is made for desktop and server systems on large networks, and it has two complementary components: server and client applications.
Since it's no longer available as a standalone product, VirusScan can no longer be downloaded from Softpedia. Instead, the current download link redirects you to the McAfee Internet Security product page. Because it cannot be downloaded and used anymore, the tool receives the default three-star rating.
